At Berlin Family Eyecare, we offer the typical comprehensive eye health and vision exams; however, we also offer emergency care. Whether an eye emergency occurs during our regular business hours or after-hours, we are here to help.
When an eye injury occurs or an infection becomes evident, seeking immediate care from an experienced Optometrist is essential to limiting the amount of damage to the eye and reducing the likelihood of permanent vision loss.
Symptoms and incidences that require emergency treatment include:
- Any type of eye injury
- A foreign material in the eye (e.g., metal, glass, wood, a chemical, etc.)
- An eye infection (e.g., pink eye, etc.)
- The sudden loss of vision in one or both of the eyes
- A scratched eye
- Double vision in one or both of the eyes
- Eyes that are irritated and/or itchy
- Seeing ‘flashes of light’ or ‘floaters’
- A broken, lost or dislodged contact lens
- Eyes that are painful and/or red
- A lost or broken pair of eyeglasses
When these symptoms and/or incidences occur, immediate evaluation is required. Therefore, if you or a loved one is experiencing any of these issues, contact Berlin Family Eyecare at (330) 893-2215: Emergency eyecare services are available 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.
Things to avoid while waiting for assistance:
- Do not try to remove any foreign body sitting on the clear surface of the eye from which we see (i.e., the cornea).
- Do not rub the injured eye.
- Do not press on the injured eye.
- Do not try to remove a foreign body that appears to be embedded within the eye.
- Do not use any kind of sharp instrument (e.g., tweezers) near the eye.
- Do not use dry cotton (e.g., cotton swabs) to try and remove a foreign object.
